If you think you’re the first to achieve something, it’s possible that Soulja Boy has already done it years ago. On February 1, the rapper responded to PlaqueBoyMax, who claimed to be the “first streamer ever nominated for a Grammy.”

In a quote-tweet on X, Soulja Boy remarked, “Cap. I did that in 2008.” He supported his claim by sharing responses from Grok, one of which indicated that he was an early user of livestreaming via justin.tv in 2007. Notably, “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” earned him his first and only Grammy nomination the following year for Best Rap Song, although Kanye West’s “Good Life” won that category.

In another response regarding whether Soulja Boy qualifies as a “streamer,” Grok mentioned that he performed at YouTube Live in 2008 and currently streams on platforms like Twitch and Kick.

PlaqueBoyMax addressed Soulja Boy’s comments in an interview with Variety on the red carpet. When a reporter referred to him as the “first streamer to be nominated for a Grammy,” he acknowledged Soulja Boy’s prior achievements. “Well, actually, I just went on Twitter and saw Soulja Boy did it. I didn’t know that,” he said. “Soulja Boy did everything first, like, bro, let me have some.”

PlaqueBoyMax received a nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Recording for his collaboration with Fred again.. and Skepta on “Victory Lap.” He expressed that it was a “blessing” and “an honor” to be nominated at the Grammy Awards for the first time. The trio ultimately lost to Tame Impala’s “End of Summer.”

Later that evening, he tweeted, “Damn, we lost.” The awards occur annually, and with his rising popularity in Hip Hop, it is possible that PlaqueBoyMax may receive another nomination in the future.
