Nigerian musician Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, has caused a stir on social media following the release of recent photos showcasing his striking new appearance.
The Afrobeats performer, who had cut his dreadlocks in 2020 as a gesture of support for the #EndSARS campaign, was spotted with a new set of dreadlocks in recent studio photographs. At that point, Rema had posted his decision to cut his hair with the caption, “Dreads don’t imply I’m a criminal #EndSARS.”
Rema was spotted in a fashionable Bottega ensemble during his recent photoshoot for the UK’s Dazed magazine, however, it was his distinctive dreadlocks that garnered the most attention. Adorned with decorative pins and striking a tilted pose, his hair drew attention and sparked conversations about the evolution of his style.
Among those responding to Rema’s new appearance was Nollywood producer Stanley Ontop. The singer shared photos on Instagram with a caption that had a humorous tone. “Tongues wag, women and men faint as Rema turns herself into the Queen of Africa,” he jokingly wrote, poking fun at the singer’s dramatic pose, (number 1 not specified).
As the photos continue to be shared on social media, opinions among fans remain split. Some people commend Rema for his daring fashion decisions, but others are speculating about what motivated his change in style.
