Nigerian music artist Davido has expressed his strong disapproval regarding a recent bullying incident involving students at Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City, Edo State.

The Afrobeats artist’s anger was evident as a video circulated on social media depicting a student being violently assaulted by classmates. The footage has drawn significant backlash in Nigeria and beyond, prompting a public condemnation from Davido.

On his social media, Davido shared his disgust after viewing the video. He referred to the attackers as “animals” and indicated that the incident was “disgusting.”

The video started trending on March 13, 2026, showing a vulnerable student enduring severe mistreatment from two male peers while another individual recorded the event.

In the clip, the victim can be seen subjected to:

– Being flogged and repeatedly kicked in the stomach
– Being slammed to the ground
– Receiving stomps to the head and ribs from the attackers

The violence depicted in the footage led to swift reactions from Nigerians online, with many calling for strict punishment for those involved. Numerous commentators have also urged for legal action in addition to any disciplinary measures taken by the school.

In response to the rising outcry, Igbinedion Education Centre issued an official statement late Friday night acknowledging that the incident did occur on their premises.

The statement indicated that the school had completed an internal review and acted decisively against those involved.

“The behavior shown in the video is deeply disturbing and violates our values and standards. Following an immediate investigation, the responsible students have been EXPELLED with immediate effect,” the statement stated.

In light of the public reaction, the Edo State Ministry of Education intervened, announcing the establishment of a five-member committee to investigate the incident’s circumstances.

Officials stated that the panel will evaluate supervision procedures and assess any lapses in the school’s systems.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has invited the victim’s parents to file a formal complaint as part of a criminal investigation regarding the assault. Although the students implicated are minors, police officials indicated that the severity of the attack necessitates legal examination.

Davido’s response highlights the broader sentiment of anger among Nigerians online, many of whom are advocating for stronger anti-bullying policies in private schools across the nation.

As of March 15, 2026, the situation is being closely monitored while the governmental investigative committee begins its review of the school’s safety and supervision policies. This incident has reignited discussions about student welfare and discipline within Nigeria’s educational framework.
