Nigerian singer and producer Crayon, whose real name is Charles Chibueze Chukwu, has generated significant attention online with a series of messages aimed at Don Jazzy, Rema, and Mavin Records.

The 28-year-old artist from Lagos gained prominence through Mavin’s talent pipeline before joining Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint associated with Mavin, in 2019. His recent social media activity has been described by fans as one of the most notable artist-label disputes in recent times.

Crayon’s posts combined elements of playful affection and sharp criticism. He started with a shoutout to Don Jazzy that was somewhat puzzling: “Don jazzy na my boy!!!!!! Una dey maddddd!!?? Shayennnnn sharayyyyyy333”

However, the tone quickly turned confrontational, targeting the label’s COO:
“Tega highest criminal!!!!!!!!!”

He then directed his comments towards Mavin Records as a whole, asserting:
“Mavin is going down!!!!!!”

He also addressed Rema, the label’s most prominent artist:
“Rema for the next 100 years no feature. You stole my star from me. Yeah I took tha shiiiiii backkkkk hoeeeeerrrr!!!!! Snakkkkkkkeeeeeesssssssss.”

Additionally, Crayon compared himself to Rema:
“I’m HYM!!!! Not REMA!!!! Niggaaaaa I’m 69 in Africa!!!!!!!”

Observers in the industry suggest that this outburst may be linked to recent developments. Crayon’s latest single, Baami, was released without the typical promotional support from Mavin, which has led to speculation that he might be exploring a more independent direction in his career or considering leaving the label entirely.

Since the passing of his mother last year, some fans have noted Crayon’s reduced public visibility, indicating that personal grief could be contributing to his frustrations within the industry.

Adding to the tension, Baami was issued under a new label called “Olodum Ent” instead of Mavin Records, which may imply a shift in his career trajectory. The single, produced by frequent collaborator Ozedikus, was launched without the customary Mavin branding and promotional assistance.

Crayon also sought creative input for his new imprint by tweeting:
“Any weird creatives that can come with OLODUM ENT FLAGGSSSSS!!!! Gets 500 million naira cash !!!!! With love WARAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!”

As fans and industry professionals analyze his statements, it is evident that Crayon’s future actions, whether they involve independent projects or a complete break from Mavin, will be closely monitored. What is clear is that he is signaling his intention to forge his own path in the music industry.
