YFN Lucci is now out of prison. The Georgia Department of Corrections announced on Friday (Jan. 31) morning that the individual had been released, nearly a year after he had pleaded guilty to one count of violating the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

The “Key to the Streets” rapper, who had been arrested in January 2021 and charged with murder and RICO offences, received a 20-year sentence in 2024, with half of it to be served in prison and the other half on probation, but was not behind bars for nearly that amount of time. Having already completed a substantial portion of his sentence, he became eligible for parole only a few months later in May.

During the sentencing, Lucci spoke to the family of 28-year-old James Adams, the person who was shot in 2020 and for whom Lucci was accused of serving as the getaway driver. “My thoughts are with James Adams and his family, starting with this.” I’d like to express my apologies to my family and friends for subjecting them to this trying ordeal. An expression of regret is also due from me to the court.

Following more than two weeks of jury selection and three years of pretrial litigation, as well as three years of imprisonment prior to his scheduled trial, the prosecution ultimately agreed to drop the murder and RICO charges against Rayshawn Bennett, defence attorney Drew Findling noted.

Lucci likely released very little while he was incarcerated. “I Gotcha” was released in February 2021, shortly after the artist had surrendered to law enforcement. The rapper released the song “Free Me” three years after serving a relatively minor prison sentence.

Before being incarcerated at Fulton County Jail, fans had access to Wish Me Well 3 in 2020. The album consisted of 21 songs, including the hit single “Wet (She Got That…)” and its remix, as well as the tracks “Both of Us” and “Both of Us” featuring Layton Greene and Rick Ross. Guest appearances on the project also included contributions from Mozzy, Yungeen Ace, and Jackboy.
