Tiwa Savage

Nigerian music artist Tiwa Savage has provided new insights into the leak of her private video, alleging that her former boyfriend was behind it and that it originated from a bet he made with friends.

During her appearance on the American radio show The Breakfast Club, she discussed the emotional effects of the incident, which garnered significant media attention in 2021.

Tiwa Savage stated that her ex-partner initially claimed the video was shared by accident while trying to save it. However, she later learned that the situation was different.

“Even that itself was traumatic because he was my boyfriend, we were in a relationship, and I’m hearing later that it was a bet. So, did you really like me or was this just planned from the beginning,”

she reflected.

She expressed that the sense of betrayal was particularly painful because it involved someone she had trusted. This experience has altered her approach to relationships, leading her to avoid meeting romantic partners in hotel rooms due to concerns about hidden cameras.

Instead, Savage prefers to meet in locations she considers safe and controlled, while also shielding her son from unnecessary public attention.

Regarding her response to the controversy, the Afrobeats artist noted that she initially tried to cope with the pain through humor, even referencing the incident in her song “Loaded.” However, she now believes she never fully processed the emotional trauma at that time.

She acknowledged that she was a victim of the situation and not responsible for what transpired.

Savage also rejected the notion that the leaked video was a publicity stunt meant to enhance her career.

“They thought I did it for PR. A lot of people thought, ‘Ah, she’s not relevant anymore and she’s doing this.’ And I’m like, guys, trust me, if I wanted to do that, I would have had better lighting,”

she stated.

Additionally, she mentioned that pursuing legal action over the incident was eventually halted because the process became emotionally taxing, requiring her to repeatedly relive the difficult experience.
