Sevyn Streeter Explains Her Reasons For Sending Yung Bleu A Cease-And-Desist Regarding Their Collaboration On ‘Shakira’

Sevyn Streeter has taken steps to send Yung Bleu a cease-and-desist regarding his song “Shakira.” On January 13, she responded to his assertion that she attempted to have the track removed from streaming platforms.

For context, Bleu retweeted a fan’s comment about “Shakira” invoking strong emotions, adding that Streeter disliked her verse and sought its removal. Streeter clarified that the album version was merely the demo recorded during their session together.

“I asked Bleu to send me the vocals/session so that my engineer and I could re-cut, clean them and send them right back,” she stated on Instagram. “After months of texts, DMs, and calls, Bleu refused to send them and did not engage on two additional records I worked on with Verse Simmonds and 4REST.”

She noted that she followed up again on January 6, shortly before the release of THERAPY on January 9. According to her, Bleu replied, “I don’t think we gon’ make it in time lol. I think it’s amazing though. I told them to take it off.”

Streeter added, “My response was, ‘Kk, we’ll catch the next one.’ Once the song was released without my approval, I called him multiple times, but he did not respond, so I contacted him and his team about the lack of respect shown in releasing my voice. My lawyer was then notified.”

She mentioned, “I tried the artist-to-artist route first. Now, it’s just business.” Streeter encouraged fans to stream her recent release, “’97,” which dropped last month and is intended as a precursor to her forthcoming album. She has not released a full-length project since 2021’s Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz.

In the meantime, Bleu suggested a potential video for “Nobody Like You” from THERAPY could be coming soon.
