Indonesian rapper Rich Brian has been a celebrity for nearly a decade now. An 88rising artist has built a loyal and devoted following through his music, releasing two albums and further EPs in the intervening period. His final album, The Sailor, received positive reviews when it was released in July 2019. Brian is now preparing to release his first full-length project since then, titled WHERE IS MY HEAD? The album’s release date is scheduled for May 23. The lead single from the album, “Little Ray Of Light,” was released last month. He released “Butterfly” on Friday.
The main character in the movie “Butterfly” is female. Rich Brian’s lyrics describe a romance that begins powerfully but promptly turns sour. In the opening line, he mentions the one person who makes him feel overly attached, stating his desire to take their relationship beyond a friendship. The second verse reveals Brian’s awareness that he’s not suited for a relationship at this stage of his life. “I’ve got my own problems, I don’t need romantic feelings,” he states in the song. The track was also produced by the artist himself, with a sound reminiscent of contemporary Tyler, the Creator, an artist Brian had previously referenced as an inspiration. The track’s delivery and feel are matched perfectly by this element. The track “Butterfly” serves as a solid song and a suitable preview for an album that enthusiasts of Rich Brian have been anticipating for a considerable amount of time. Listen to it below.
