In the late 2010s, Lil Skies and Landon Cube were two notable artists who had achieved significant commercial success. Most casual fans of hip-hop music will likely recall the duo of popular emo/pop rap hits from 2017, specifically “Red Roses” and “Nowadays,” which dominated the airwaves at that time. In the genre, both artists seemed poised to become the next big stars for a relatively short period of time. The narrative shifted rapidly with the onset of the 2020s. The general consensus was that their music wasn’t quite living up to expectations, which consequently sparked discussions about a downturn in their career. They have not done much to silence the noise so far. Lil Skies has been particularly affected by this over the past year.
Unfortunately, many artists fall victim to this harsh reality, a consequence of the notoriously competitive nature of the music industry as we all know it. Rappers Lil Skies and Landon Cube are undoubtedly aware of the criticism they’ve been facing from online consumers. That’s why it’s being referenced in their new song, “2Much 2Fast.” This is their first collaborative release in nearly three years, with their chorus questioning whether they received too much notoriety and fame too quickly in their careers. Comically, the music video commences with some ordinary person claiming they have indeed fallen off. Skies and Cube then ponder this after viewing it on their outdated television in a dilapidated house with no door. Their relationship is fraught with tension, and they also discuss the challenges of succeeding in their industry, with the well-being of both themselves and their partners being a top priority, no matter what it takes.
