A bail hearing for Jude Engees Okoye, Paul Okoye’s (also known as Rudeboy) brother, occurred today at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Okoye is facing seven counts of indictment regarding unlawful financial dealings, encompassing the illicit laundering of over 1.38 billion Naira, one million US dollars, and £34,537.59.

At the bail hearing, Jude Okoye’s legal team, headed by prominent human rights activist Inibere Effiong, urged that the proceedings be accelerated due to Okoye’s upcoming departure. Judge Alexander Owoeye approved the request, permitting the defence team to continue with their bail application.

The prosecution, led by Fannel Anun, contended that Okoye poses a flight risk and might tamper with witnesses. Okoye’s lawyer argued that he has met all court summons and does not pose a flight risk.

Paul Okoye, who was present in court, was instructed by the court to communicate through his lawyer instead of speaking directly. He provided documents in an effort to secure bail for his brother, yet the judge remarked that he was already well aware of Paul’s television appearances.

The hearing has been postponed and will resume on Monday, March 3, 2025, at which point a ruling will be made, with Okoye remaining at the correctional facility in the meantime. According to advice, Paul Okoye is expected to submit his documents by Monday, a move which may have an impact on the bail decision.

Northside Music Ltd., Okoye’s company, is also involved in the case, with accusations including the purchase of a prime property in Ikoyi, Lagos, valued at ₦850,000,000, which is alleged to have been bought with money obtained through illegal means.
