Jorja Smith Discloses That Wizkid’s Song ‘Alive’ Was Initially Intended For Him

Jorja Smith discussed her collaboration with Wizkid on the song ‘Alive,’ explaining that it was originally a Wizkid track before she became involved. In an interview with JAM FM Berlin, she addressed her new album, the creative process, and her thoughts on artificial intelligence in music.

Smith noted that ‘Alive’ is the oldest song on the album and shared that producer P2J had already collaborated with Wizkid on the record prior to her hearing it. She mentioned, “P2J had that song with Wiz already, and then I heard it.”

Smith indicated that Wizkid’s contribution influenced her approach to the song, allowing her to find her own interpretation instead of merely acting as a guest feature. She described the inspiration for her part as akin to the feeling of traveling to meet someone at the start of a new relationship. “It was just reminding me of driving down to meet someone. There’s like a driving force in the song, a pull,” she explained.

This emotional connection aligns with the theme of exploring new love. The music video was filmed in Paris, a location she felt enhanced the romantic vibe of the track.

The origins of the song also underscore the collaborative dynamic between P2J and Wizkid, who have previously worked together on several projects, including much of Made in Lagos and tracks from More Love, Less Ego and Morayo.

Additionally, Smith expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of AI-generated content that can be mistaken for her work, revealing that even her family has been misled by such material. “AI is kind of a scary grey area. Where is this going?” she commented. She mentioned that she and her team are actively monitoring the situation and responding to any fake content that claims to be associated with her online.
