Nigerian music executive Olumide Ogunade, known as ID Cabasa, has expressed his views on the widely held belief that age is synonymous with wisdom, stating that he does not agree with this notion.

During a recent episode of The Clarity Zone podcast, the 50-year-old producer challenged the assumption that older age inherently brings wisdom. He noted that this idea has never been fully accurate.

“The belief that the older you get, the wiser you are is an assumption that has never been true. I am not saying that older people lack intelligence or wisdom.

“However, many individuals perceive themselves as wiser due to their experiences rather than their competence. Often, the experiences they draw from are no longer relevant,” he remarked.

Cabasa elaborated that while experience can be beneficial, it does not necessarily ensure relevance or competence in a fast-changing world. He believes that personal growth is a key factor in this regard.

“If a person is growing, there is a likelihood that they will become wiser as they age. However, this is not the case if they are merely getting older without personal development.

“We are encountering a generation that has been raised with advanced technology, while some older individuals may have only learned basic usage. Therefore, respect should not be demanded solely based on age.”

In clarifying his position, Cabasa emphasized that he does not discount the intelligence of older individuals. Instead, he advocates for a shift in perspective that evaluates wisdom through continuous learning, adaptability, and competence, rather than just the length of one’s life.

His remarks have sparked discussions online, particularly among younger creators navigating fields where tradition and innovation often intersect.
