“I Do Not Smoke Or Use Hard Drugs,” Stated Oxlade

Nigerian Afrobeats artist Ikuforiji Abdulrahman, known as Oxlade, has shared insights into his lifestyle, indicating that he abstains from smoking and the use of hard drugs. He attributes this choice to his Christian upbringing and strong family values.

In an interview with gospel artist Tim Godfrey, Oxlade reflected on how his upbringing in a faith-oriented and musically active household influenced his character and career.

He mentioned that his participation in church activities significantly helped him stay grounded, highlighting that music and worship have consistently been integral to his life.

Oxlade’s musical journey began in the church choir, where he held various leadership positions across different age groups, including children’s, teen, youth, and mass choirs.

He also spoke about his family’s musical heritage, noting that his grandmother is a talented singer and his grandfather was skilled in playing multiple instruments.

Additionally, he mentioned that his mother is both a singer and dancer, and having a pastor in the family further reinforced his spiritual foundation.

The singer emphasized that gospel music serves as the foundation of his songwriting, considering it his primary source of creative inspiration. In discussing his career milestones, Oxlade expressed gratitude for his growth and success, linking it to divine guidance.

He stated that touring various cities with his debut album reassures him that his journey is divinely ordained, providing him with confidence, peace of mind, and clarity of purpose.

It is noteworthy that Oxlade collaborated with Tim Godfrey on the gospel-themed track “Infinity” last year. The song, which blended gospel elements with Afrobeats, received mixed reactions online, facing criticism from some while earning praise from others who viewed it as a bold and innovative crossover.
