Hip Hop enthusiasts may be somewhat prepared to move past Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” the 2024 anthem that remained popular throughout this year, partly due to its performance at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, yet Hollywood has not finished with it. On the evening of Sunday, March 2, Conan O’Brien made a mention of the Compton-based emcee’s dispute with Drake at the 2025 Oscars ceremony.

The comedian and event host made a humorous comment, stating that since they are at the midpoint of the show, it is now the suitable time for Kendrick Lamar to appear and accuse Drake of being a pedophile, a remark allegedly linked to Lamar’s performance of “Not Like Us” during his halftime show in February. The track is emerging from the success of winning five Grammy Awards and achieving the No. position. At number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track produced by Mustard notoriously included the lyric, “Certified Lover Boy.” Certified pedophiles.”

O’Brien seemed to be referencing Drake’s lawsuit against Universal Music Group, both his own record label and Drake’s, which reportedly distributed a song with a false claim that he was a “criminal pedophile”. A pretrial conference between Drake and the music conglomerate is scheduled to start on April 2.

Drake’s Lawsuit Against Universal Music Group Continues to Make Headlines

It may seem reasonable for Drake to take action against Lamar over the song, considering he is the one who delivered the lyrics in a rap, but that’s not what’s happening. The head of OVO Sound is concentrating his legal efforts against UMG, claiming that their supposed action to diminish the worth of Drake’s music and personal image was an attempt to coerce him into signing a new agreement that would be more beneficial to them.

According to the legal documents, this lawsuit is not focused on the artist behind the song ‘Not Like Us.’ The focus is entirely on UMG, a music company that chose to disseminate, advertise, profit from, and capitalise on claims it knew were not only unfounded but also potentially hazardous.

Conan O’Brien’s hurtful joke about Drake involving a pedophile still has a lasting impact.

O’Brien may be behind the curve – months after the celebrity crowd and online personalities capitalised on the ‘Not Like Us’ trend – but his shot at Drake still carries considerable sting. The term 6 God has been self-applied, yet even he is not immune to a petty jab, thus it is conceivable that he could retaliate through a track in the future or on his private Instagram account.
