Jude Okoye, the older brother of Peter and Paul Okoye from the dissolved music group P-Square, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Lagos after being charged with money laundering.
Northside Music Limited’s CEO, Okoye, was summoned to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with alleged money laundering totaling N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59. The EFCC alleged that Okoye and his record label purchased a valued property at N850 million, located at No. 5, Tony Eromosele Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos, in 2022, despite having knowledge or a reasonable suspicion that the funds utilised originated from illicit activities.
Justice Alexander Owoeye granted Jude Okoye bail on the condition that he provide two sureties who must each be responsible for the sum of N100 million. The court made it clear that one of the guarantors must own a piece of real estate, and Okoye is barred from leaving the country until further court action.
A video circulating online showed Okoye leaving the court with his brother Paul Okoye following their successful bail application. The case is likely to proceed as the legal process develops further.
