Chike Discusses His Mother’s Advice On Selecting A Partner

Nigerian singer Chike recently discussed the advice his mother provided about relationships, highlighting how she influenced his perspective on selecting a life partner.

In a recent interview, Chike shared that his mother emphasized the significance of being with a partner who actively contributes to her life and surroundings.

He mentioned that being involved with someone who lacks productivity or independence could lead to assuming unnecessary responsibilities.

Chike stated:

“I think everyone should look for a partner that adds value. My mom has often told me that regardless of how strong the feelings are, I should not settle with someone who does not have her own pursuits. She has warned me against this, saying that as her child, she understands both kids and women. It’s not about being with someone who merely pretends to be busy. Just because they might have a business in Lekki doesn’t mean you should be the one covering the rent.

Regardless of your feelings for that person, if they do not contribute positively to the relationship, it’s best to avoid it. It becomes even more complicated if they have family obligations, as not everyone comes from a comfortable background. For instance, if you meet someone who is burdened with caring for her entire family but does not have her own ambitions, you will be taking on that family responsibility as well…”

Chike’s remarks highlight the practical mindset his mother encouraged, focusing on self-sufficiency, accountability, and mutual growth in a relationship rather than depending solely on emotions.
