Rob Base, ‘It Takes Two’ Rapper, Dead At 59 After Cancer Battle

Rob Base, one-half of the duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, has died at the age of 59.

On May 22, Rob Base’s family confirmed on his Instagram page that the rapper known for “It Takes Two” had passed away after a private battle with cancer, just days after celebrating his 59th birthday on May 18.

In a message shared on social media, the family expressed their sorrow, stating that Rob Base died peacefully surrounded by family. They highlighted his influence on music and culture, noting that his energy and legacy shaped a generation and brought joy to many. The message acknowledged his roles as a father, friend, and creative contributor, emphasizing that his impact will be remembered.

Rob Base, born Robert Ginyard in Harlem, NY, formed the rap duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock with his childhood friend, DJ E-Z Rock. Their classic debut album, “It Takes Two,” was released in 1988 and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in June 1989, with the title track following suit by December 1989.

DJ E-Z Rock, born Rodney Bryce, passed away on April 27, 2014, due to complications related to diabetes. Rob Base described him as a good, funny person and recalled him as the class clown type.

As of now, memorial services for Rob Base have not been formally announced.
