Nigerian Afropop artist Adekunle Gold has spoken out about his strong feeling of family duty, claiming he would rather be unsuccessful as a musician than be unsuccessful as a parent or spouse.

In a recent interview, the singer behind the Obimo song stated that his wife, Simi, and their daughter, Adejare, are the most crucial elements of his life. He referred to his family as his “centre,” stating that his main drive stems from a desire to give his daughter a more favourable life than he experienced during his childhood.

I want to provide a better life for my daughter, as I am unable to accept her having the same life that I did. Adekunle Gold stated that it has to be significantly better, which is why he continues to work diligently.

The artist, celebrated for combining Afropop with soulful music styles, has also thought about how fatherhood has changed what he considers important. Although his success in music has given him a global reputation, he stated that his family is still the ultimate benchmark of his sense of fulfillment.

I can afford to be a failed musician, rather than a failed father or a failed man. He made it clear it’s not up for discussion.

Since his marriage to Simi in 2019, Adekunle Gold has been widely commended for his genuine nature, which is evident in both his music and personal life, highlighting that beneath his fame, he remains firmly rooted in love, family, and a sense of duty.
