Young Thug’s song “Ninja” has been described as a gay anthem.

In a clip shared by Them on November 20, the Atlanta rapper was asked about his “gay anthem of the moment” during GQ’s annual Men of the Year party. After seeking clarification on the term, reporter Ludwig Hurtado explained it as a song that resonates with the LGBTQ+ community.

After some thought, Young Thug selected “Ninja” from his latest album, UY SCUTI, and humorously noted, “It’s by this gay rapper named Young Thug.” Hurtado responded with enthusiasm, indicating he was looking forward to listening to it, and Thug encouraged him to do so.

“Ninja” stirred controversy upon its release on streaming platforms in September, primarily due to Thug’s use of the N-word with the hard “-er.” In the lyrics, he raps, “My kids, they straight, you n**ger / I’m not fake, you n**ger / Black diamonds today, I’m a n**ger.”

In a later appearance on the “It’s Up There Podcast,” Thug discussed his artistic choices, including the decision to adopt a “white” aesthetic on the UY SCUTI cover and the controversial language in his lyrics. He remarked, “I think it was just some funny s**t, but it’s still serious to the point where I went with it. That’s what I said when I put the album cover out, I said, ‘Aye, if you wanna be the biggest, go white.’”

In addition to attending the GQ Men of the Year party, Thug also made headlines with comments outside of Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont. While signing autographs and engaging with fans, a reporter inquired about Mariah the Scientist’s absence. He explained that she had a show, and when asked about the status of their relationship, he confirmed, “Of course. I just put a baby in her.”
