In a recent tribute post to Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug stated that he never changed his loyalty toward Quan. However, friends and fans of Quan have expressed differing opinions.

On May 5, Young Thug shared a video on Instagram that showcased his friendship with the late rapper Rich Homie Quan, featuring the two rapping in the studio to their song “Tell Em.” In the caption, Thug wrote, “Never switched on u brada always road with u what happened.”

Though the post seemed straightforward, it prompted a negative response from Quan’s associates, suggesting that it was Young Thug who had changed his behavior. Quan’s brother, Dre, commented, “Pride & Ego.” Quan’s manager, Monta, wrote, “Don’t Ride For Me Then, Why We Always Wait Why SMH.”

In response to their comments, Young Thug shared several Instagram Stories explaining his perspective on the situation with Rich Homie Quan. He mentioned that he distanced himself from YFN Lucci due to an alleged conflict with Quan and asserted that he remained loyal to Quan during that time. Thug claimed that Quan later chose to distance himself because he felt he was “bigger alone” and no longer needed Thug’s support. He also emphasized that he is the “definition of loyalty.”

Fans responded to Thug’s comments with a variety of opinions on his relationship with Quan. One user criticized Thug, saying, “This is so nasty of him. Quan is dead. He can’t speak up for himself. Should’ve said all of this before he died. This some weird s**t.” Another user pointed out that Quan had previously made negative remarks about Thug on a show, which marked the start of their public issues. A third commenter referenced past conflicts, stating that Thug had reacted negatively when Quan expressed a desire to focus on his solo career and recalling an incident involving violence linked to their group.

For context, Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan were prominent members of Birdman’s Rich Gang collective in the mid-2010s and collaborated on the hit single “Lifestyle” in 2014. However, their friendship deteriorated the following year, and by May 2017, Quan indicated that they were no longer in contact. During Young Thug’s RICO trial, it was revealed that a former YSL member had testified about an incident involving gunfire at Quan’s father’s barbershop in 2014, leading to further complications between the two.

Rich Homie Quan passed away on September 5, 2024, from an accidental drug overdose. In an October 2025 interview with Adin Ross, Young Thug expressed regret over not having resolved their issues before Quan’s death.
