Leon Thomas’ highly anticipated “Tiny Desk Concert” has finally arrived, and it’s clear that he exceeded the high standards set by R&B enthusiasts. The singer and producer performed a medley of songs from MUTT at NPR’s office on February 20, Thursday.

Thomas kicked off the performance with his highest caliber vocals on “VIBES DON’T LIE,” as expected, prompting a round of applause from the audience. The office in question is undeniably one of the most vibrant and lively workplaces ever seen. He exclaimed “I’m messing with you all,” before interjecting “YES IT IS” and “MUTT.”

Following that, the artist somewhat offset the previous tone with “Breaking Point” and “Treasure In The Hills,” two of the standout tracks from his debut album, Electric Dusk, released in 2023. View the information provided below.

Leon Thomas’ performance at the “Tiny Desk Concert” was widely regarded by social media as truly exceptional.

Thomas’ live performance was deservedly well-received and received plenty of praise online. On Twitter, a fan referred to it as a gift specifically for older Gen Z viewers: “If you spent your childhood watching ‘The Backyardigans,’ ‘August Rush,’ and ‘Victorious,’ you’re well aware that Leon’s voice has been active and he can perform.”

An opposing user claimed the singer-songwriter effectively silenced the notion that R&B is dead, citing the fact that it is simply no longer being broadcast on the radio. The only genuine criticism was that his 19-minute performance fell short, particularly given the substantial value of what MUTT has to offer. An individual requested the longer version.

MUTT came close to securing the No. The 2024 list of Rap-Up’s Best R&B Albums featured one spot which included tracks like “I DO”, “FEELINGS ON SILENT”, and “LUCID DREAMS”. Thomas also gave us some of the standout R&B collaborations of the year with “I USED TO” assisted by Baby Rose and “FAR FETCHED” featuring Ty Dolla Sign. The LP’s title track was also featured on a remix by Masego, Wale, Axlfolie, and Freddie Gibbs.

Thomas explained to ESSENCE that one of the things he truly appreciates about many of these tracks is that the bulk of the guest vocals were recorded with the artists present. What was driving the collaboration wasn’t our record executives or the pressure from our record labels to create a successful partnership that would increase our visibility. Two artists collaborated to create an engaging narrative.
