Tiwa Savage Discusses The Reasons Behind Establishing Her Music Foundation

Nigerian Afrobeats artist Tiwa Savage has discussed her motivation for establishing the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, stating that it was created to support the significant musical talent in Nigeria with appropriate structure and opportunities.

The singer expressed that the idea emerged from the realization that despite Nigeria’s wealth of creativity, many talented individuals do not have access to the infrastructure and education necessary to reach their full potential.

“The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation began as a necessity. I believed that a foundation like this was needed in Nigeria. We have an abundance of talent, and we need to work on developing infrastructure and investing in education so that when people recognize our talent, they also see that access is available.

“We do not lack talent in Nigeria; we have an abundance. My goal is to create access so that those with talent can find the right infrastructure, education, and also serve as a bridge to the wider world,”

Tiwa stated.

Tiwa shared these insights while speaking with journalists during the foundation’s unveiling and official launch at The Delborough Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, on March 9.

The event drew several dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who attended to show his support for the initiative.

“You know what it is about. Today is her day. She’s one of our best, so I have to support her,” the governor remarked.

The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing aspiring African artists with music education, mentorship, and industry connections that can assist in developing their careers.

As part of its initial initiative, the foundation will conduct the ‘Berklee In Nigeria: Tiwa Savage Intensive Music Program,’ a four-day training session scheduled for Lagos from April 23 to April 26, 2026. Applications for the program will open on March 10, 2026.

In addition to her successful music career, the foundation’s launch underscores Savage’s commitment to fostering the next generation of creatives in Africa’s music industry.

“Music changed my life. But talent alone isn’t enough, especially when access is limited. I want to create something that reveals the full range of possibilities in music.

The person who writes a film’s score, creates music for global campaigns, or uses music as a healing tool,”

Tiwa pointed out.

With the initiative now in motion, the Afrobeats artist is shifting her focus from personal achievements to fostering opportunities that could influence the future of African music.
