Terrace Martin, the consistently prolific producer from Crenshaw who also occasionally raps, is preparing to launch another new album. Scheduled for release on February 28, Albion Files will be accompanied by the lead single “Full Speed,” which was released on Friday. The track includes contributions from A$AP Ferg and DRAM, marking Martin’s initial collaboration with both artists. This single appears to be a strong indicator of another promising album from Martin, joining a lengthy roster of high-quality releases.
Terrace Martin utilizes a sample of OutKast’s “Elevators (Me & You)” in “Full Speed,” propelling the track forward. The beat is light and unobtrusive. A$AP Ferg’s contributions, along with DRAM’s, are primarily responsible for shaping the song. A$AP Ferg delivers a storytelling verse on the track, which is not typically what fans expect from his verses. He recounts the encounter with a girl at Nobu who bears a resemblance to Naomi Sharon, where they initially get acquainted, then obtain her contact information, and subsequently bring her to his next performance. The verse does not take a overtly sensual direction. Martin appears to focus primarily on jazzy R&B-inspired songs that maintain a lighthearted atmosphere, but DRAM contradicts this with his verse. He’s significantly more outspoken in his lyrics, however, it is just as effective as Ferg’s verse. Terrace Martin’s “Full Speed” is an excellent track, and his upcoming album is definitely worth keeping an eye on. Take a listen to the single below.
