Tems Appointed Executive Producer For Film Soundtrack

Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Tems has reached another significant milestone in her career by being appointed the Executive Music Producer and Curator of the official soundtrack for the upcoming film Children of Blood and Bone.

This position marks her as the first woman to executive produce a soundtrack of this magnitude, broadening her influence beyond recording and performing.

Tems will manage the creative direction of the soundtrack and has recorded three original songs for the project, providing fans with new music and contributing to the sonic identity of one of the year’s most anticipated film releases.

The soundtrack features a noteworthy lineup of Nigerian artists, including Ayra Starr, BNXN, and Fireboy DML, highlighting the expanding influence of Afrobeats on the global entertainment landscape.

Acclaimed filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood expressed her reasons for choosing Tems to lead the soundtrack, commending her creativity and the quality of the final work.

“I wanted Tems to curate the soundtrack. I wanted her to executive produce it. She’s actually the first woman to executive produce a soundtrack at this level, which is incredible. She put together an epic soundtrack. There are absolutely no skips… The soundtrack is so amazing, and I’m so proud of Tems, who had never done this before and created something truly extraordinary.”

The director’s remarks emphasize the trust in Tems to produce a soundtrack that matches the film’s scale and emotional depth. This new role signifies a notable progression in her artistic journey, exemplifying her capability to spearhead major creative initiatives beyond the recording studio.

Additionally, Burna Boy has been appointed executive music consultant, collaborating with Tems to shape the overall musical direction of the soundtrack.

Regarding the collaborative effort behind the project, Prince-Bythewood provided insights into the carefully selected lineup.

“Then Burna Boy came on board as the executive music consultant. We’ve got three new Tems tracks. We’ve got Fireboy DML, BNXN (Benson), and Ayra Starr.”

Adapted from Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel, Children of Blood and Bone has already generated significant anticipation prior to its release. With contributions from prominent Nigerian music stars, the film is expected to make a considerable impact globally, further establishing Afrobeats’ growing presence in Hollywood and international cinema.
