SZA is taking a strong position against artificial intelligence, especially when it comes to copying her image or voice. On Friday evening, September 19, the singer of “Snooze” requested her fans to stop making AI pictures of her or songs with her voice.

“Hey, I really dislike AI,” she wrote in her Instagram Stories. “Please don’t create any AI images of me or songs. People and kids are facing serious issues because of the pollution and damage caused by AI energy centers. A silly picture isn’t worth harming people in struggling communities. Thanks. ”

Research from MIT shows that artificial intelligence uses a huge amount of electricity, which increases carbon dioxide emissions and puts stress on the power supply. Additionally, a lot of water is needed to cool down the computers used to train AI models.

SZA also said in her post, “Just remember that every time you use or ask for AI, someone in a neglected community is hurting. Eventually, this will affect everyone. By that time, it will be too late. ” In another Instagram Story, she shared a fake meet-and-greet picture of a fan with her: “I really appreciate you all, but I’ve seen a lot of these. ”

The Grammy-winning artist later talked about AI artist Xania Monet’s reported big record deal. “I’m not okay with this either. Why are we undervaluing our music? ” she questioned. “I doubt they would do this with any other music style. ” It’s important to note that Monet looks like a Black woman in the R&B genre, which has been significantly influenced and led by Black women.
