Stevie Wonder Unveils 4 Unreleased ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’ Tracks

Stevie Wonder is providing fans an opportunity to revisit “Songs in the Key of Life” on its 50th anniversary, with the addition of new content.

On September 28, the renowned musician marked the occasion by releasing a four-song EP featuring previously unreleased recordings from the original sessions of “Songs in the Key of Life.” As noted in a press release, Wonder curated the project himself, which includes the tracks “It’s Easier,” “My Life Story of Love,” “I Can See the Sun In Late December,” and “I’m Into Livin’.” The recordings were mixed by original recording engineers John Fischbach and Gary O Adante.

Wonder commented in the release, “We’ve lived with Songs in the Key of Life for 50 years, but there’s still more to hear. We didn’t add these songs to the album, but they were part of what I was feeling and discovering as we made it. They bring me back to that time in my life, and now they get to become part of yours.”

All four tracks were written and produced by Wonder, with Susaye Greene co-writing the lyrics for “My Life Story of Love.” The new material features artists such as Nathan Watts, Gregory Phillinganes, Michael Sembello, Ben Bridges, Jim Horn, and Raymond Pounds. Background vocals on “I’m Into Livin’” are provided by Shirley Brewer, Thelma Houston, and Deniece Williams.

The original “Songs in the Key of Life” was released on September 28, 1976, and earned Wonder his third Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The album achieved Diamond certification and was later inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. It includes well-known tracks such as “Sir Duke,” “Knocks Me Off My Feet,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” “As,” and “Love’s in Need of Love Today.”

In addition to the EP, Wonder will be embarking on a tour titled “Songs in the Key of Life Performances – 50th Anniversary Tour.” The tour commences on October 13 at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena and will travel across Europe, stopping in cities like Paris, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Hannover, Cologne, Amsterdam, and Dublin. Following the European leg, Wonder will perform in the U.K. in London, Manchester, and Glasgow. The U.S. part of the tour will kick off on November 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, with additional performances in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Detroit, concluding on December 19 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
