Veteran Nigerian musician Seyi Sodimu has expressed his views on the impact of major Afrobeats artists, highlighting why he believes Davido may excel in politics more than Burna Boy.

In a recent episode of the What I Know podcast, Sodimu analyzed the unique strengths of the top three Afrobeats artists: Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid. He noted that while all three have significant influence, their impact varies beyond the realm of music.

Sodimu described Burna Boy as a prominent global performer known for his strong stage presence and international audience. In contrast, he characterized Wizkid as having a distinctive, almost cult-like devotion from his followers.

Sodimu asserted that Davido’s influence extends beyond the entertainment industry. He stated, “The Big 3 are all doing music for different reasons. Burna Boy has conquered the stage, and he is very good. Wizkid is special. But Davido surpasses music.”

He argued that Davido’s strong grassroots connections, philanthropic efforts, and ability to connect with diverse social and economic groups could facilitate a successful political career should he choose to pursue one.

“If Davido ran for governor today, he would win. But I don’t think Burna Boy could win as a governor,”

he remarked.

These comments align with earlier predictions made by media entrepreneur and former senator Ben Murray-Bruce, who suggested that Davido might one day become governor of Osun State. This speculation is further supported by Davido’s political background, as his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is the current governor of Osun State, reinforcing the notion that the Afrobeats artist’s influence could eventually penetrate Nigerian politics.
