Seun Kuti Continues Discussion On Wizkid Vs Fela Debate

Afrobeats artist Seun Kuti is addressing ongoing comparisons between Wizkid and his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. The discussion was brought to the forefront during a recent Instagram live session, where Seun expressed his concerns about fans referring to Wizkid as the “New Fela” or claiming he is a more significant artist than Fela.

Seun reiterated his previous comments, which had been reported by Entertainment Region, describing Wizkid FC as “the most ignorant fan base in the world.” He emphasized that labeling any contemporary musician as the “new Fela” does not appreciate his father’s unique legacy, which, according to Seun, cannot be recreated.

The situation intensified when Nigerian producer Samklef, a supporter of Wizkid FC, responded by accusing Seun of targeting the fan base out of personal animosity toward Wizkid. Samklef referred to Seun in derogatory terms during an online exchange.

Despite the backlash, Seun maintained that no current artist, regardless of their popularity, can be compared to Fela. He underscored the lasting impact of his father’s achievements, stating that Fela’s legacy continues to influence him years after his passing.

Fela’s son. Fela is still blessing me from the grave 29 years later. How many of your fathers can do that from the grave? None, because your fathers are not accomplished,” Seun stated.

He also took the opportunity to address Wizkid FC directly, pointing out that while Wizkid and DJ Tunez benefit from their fame, they seldom defend Fela against disrespect.

Wizkid and DJ Tunez are enjoying the clout, which is why they won’t come out to say, ‘Stop disrespecting Fela in my name.’”

Seun’s position is that his father’s legacy is unmatched, and that no level of contemporary fame can alter that fact.
