Saweetie is sharing her story. On Sunday, September 14, the rapper replied to someone on social media who called her the “perfect example of pretty privilege. ”

Over the weekend, a video from the “My Type” singer’s recent chat with HOT97’s Nessa went viral. “There have been many times when I’ve felt overlooked, and I know it’s because of jealousy,” Saweetie said during their talk on Tuesday, September 9. “I realize that there are hidden motives behind it, but it pushes me to work even harder. ”

“What I face in the music world is just a different version of the same issue,” she noted. “I recognize it. It just comes in various forms. ”

In response to the popular video, one user on X tweeted, “This shows the meaning of pretty privilege – being not as talented as other female rappers, yet believing you’re unfairly treated by the industry just because of how you look when that’s the only reason you’re here. ”

“Hmm, and this is a great example of confirmation bias,” Saweetie replied. “I was just pointing out how I have faced a lot of negative situations because of how I look. ”

Saweetie has talked about her experiences in the music world several times. In her March 2024 Allure cover story, she mentioned that someone from a record label suggested she should “twerk more” because they thought her “voice was really dull. ” Still, she has managed to overcome all the doubts that came her way.

On the music front, the “Best Friend” singer released HELLA PRESSURE in August. The project included her song “boffum,” which samples Young Buck, along with “twinzzz” and her collaboration with TWICE called “superstars. ” This was also her first EP in nearly three years, though fans are still waiting for her debut album.

However, she has a good reason for putting out an EP first. She told Power 106 Los Angeles’ Justin Credible a few weeks after the release, “You have to give them some small bites first before you serve the main course. ”
