Nigerian music producer and influencer Samklef has recently sparked discussion online by asserting ownership of several tracks from Wizkid’s debut album, *Superstar*.

In a post on X, he claimed that the classic 2011 album was recorded in his studio and stated that he was never compensated for the recording sessions. He mentioned that the lack of a formal agreement at the time allows him to address the issue now.

Samklef also indicated that he is willing to renegotiate the matter with Banky W, co-founder of Empire Mates Entertainment, the label that originally released the album.

“Thank God I never used my masters to collect any loan. I’m about to negotiate with Banky W since I didn’t sign any contract from the beginning. I hope the Wizkid Superstar masters were never sold,” he expressed.

He further asserted his claim regarding the ownership of the project.

“I own six tracks from the masters because Banky didn’t pay for the studio sessions — and I also own the studio where all the songs were recorded.”

Despite these assertions, it remains unclear whether Samklef has any legally recognized rights to the tracks or if his claims are based solely on the alleged unpaid studio work.

*Superstar*, released on June 12, 2011, is considered one of the most impactful albums in modern Nigerian pop music. The project significantly contributed to launching Wizkid’s global career and is regarded as a key moment in the development of Afrobeats.
