Nigerian Artists Generate ₦60 Billion On Spotify In 2025 Amid Afrobeats Growth

New data indicates significant revenue growth, increased local consumption, rising music discovery, and a greater contribution from independent artists and labels to Nigeria’s music economy.

[16 MARCH, 2026] — Spotify has released Nigeria-specific insights from Loud & Clear, its annual report aimed at enhancing understanding of music streaming economics among artists, fans, and the broader music industry.

Each year, Loud & Clear analyzes millions of data points to provide a comprehensive overview of how artists are developing careers, expanding audiences, crossing geographic boundaries, and achieving new milestones. The latest data showcases a rapidly expanding music ecosystem in Nigeria, deepening its local impact while gaining global reach.

In 2025, Nigerian artists generated over ₦60 billion from Spotify, with revenue increasing by more than 140% over two years. These figures reflect the growing global appeal of Nigerian music and the expanding economic opportunities for artists in the market.

The report also highlights listener engagement with Nigerian music on Spotify. In 2025, Nigerian artists achieved 30.3 billion streams and 1.6 billion listening hours solely on Spotify. They were discovered by first-time listeners over 1.3 billion times, representing a 26% increase compared to 2024.

Domestically, Nigerian music remains a dominant part of listening preferences. In 2025, over 80% of the tracks featured in Spotify Nigeria’s Daily Top 50 were by Nigerian artists, showcasing the influence of local talent on the country’s listening habits. Local consumption of Nigerian artists also increased by 170% year-on-year on Spotify.

The data reveals significant growth across key artist demographics. Local streams of Nigerian female artists rose by 55% year-on-year, and local streams of Nigerian independent artists increased by 75% year-on-year.

Approximately 58% of royalties generated by Nigerian artists on Spotify in 2025 were attributed to independent artists or labels, underscoring the vital role of independent creators and businesses in Nigeria’s music narrative.

Spotify’s editorial ecosystem has also supported artist discovery and promotion. In 2025, nearly 2,000 Nigerian artists were added to Spotify editorial playlists. In addition to editorial support, Nigerian music has resonated strongly with global audiences, with Nigerian artists appearing in approximately 320 million user playlists worldwide and over 12 million user playlists within Nigeria. Overall, more than 60 million playlists featuring Nigerian artists were created on Spotify in 2025.

The latest data highlights the diverse listening culture in Nigeria. Over the past five years, genres such as urban pop, alternative pop, anime, emo, and drill have shown the highest growth on Spotify in Nigeria, indicating a rapidly evolving music landscape.
