Nasboi Addresses Increasing Kidnapping Cases In Nigeria

Nigerian content creator and singer Nasiru Bolaji, known as Nasboi, has voiced his concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the country, particularly with the increase in kidnappings and violent crimes.

In a video posted on social media, Nasboi criticized the growing audacity of criminal groups that share alarming content online without consequences, while questioning the government’s response effectiveness.

His remarks followed the release of a video that showed kidnappers in Oyo State holding abducted teachers and students, which has intensified public outrage. This incident occurred after President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of security personnel to assist in securing the victims’ release.

Reports from those in captivity revealed that one of the school principals, Rachael Alamu, indicated that the abductors became more anxious upon learning that security forces had been mobilized, warning that the victims could be at risk if troops approached. She called for government negotiations with the kidnappers.

In response to the situation, Nasboi argued that the government needs to implement stronger measures against kidnapping for ransom and similar crimes, emphasizing that access to social media should be restricted for criminal elements.

He remarked, “The video of the beheaded teacher is all over the internet. The bandits themselves are using the internet to spread these videos. They record, upload, and circulate them without fear. And their phones have IP. At this point, they even seem to have better online visibility than the authorities meant to stop them. Wow.”

Nasboi further questioned the ability of the state to manage the crisis, suggesting that if Nigeria’s leadership is genuinely in control, such incidents should not be ongoing.

He added, “Unless allegedly…the bandits are stronger than our military.” He also urged the federal government to consider seeking external assistance if needed, emphasizing that prompt and decisive action is required to address the escalating insecurity across the country.
