Nigerian rapper Mr. Real, whose real name is Okafor Victor, has made a public apology to veteran singer and music executive D’banj following remarks he made about the Creative, Reality, Entertainment, Arts and Music (CREAM) platform that were deemed controversial.

The apology follows a petition filed by D’banj’s legal representative, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who accused Mr. Real of criminal defamation for comments suggesting that the CREAM platform could not afford to offer him a ₦20 million ambassadorial deal.

His remarks elicited considerable reactions on social media, prompting legal action.

A magistrate court ordered Mr. Real to appear in court and prohibited him from making any further comments about D’banj until the case is resolved.

In a video shared on his Instagram account, Mr. Real expressed regret, referring to D’banj as a father figure and mentor who has significantly impacted his life and music career.

“This video is an apology to my boss, D’banj. I want to take this opportunity to apologize to the Koko Master,” he stated. “I misunderstood and misinterpreted some things regarding the CREAM platform, and I want to sincerely say I am very sorry.”

He recognized D’banj’s influence on his music journey and reaffirmed his respect for the veteran artist.

“D’banj, you have played a significant role in my life and career, and I would never deny that. You are like a father and mentor to me. I am truly sorry, and I ask for your forgiveness,” he continued.

Mr. Real also committed to cooperating fully with the ongoing legal process, assuring that he would not make any further public comments on the matter.

“I promise to comply with the legal process and provide my full support and cooperation. I remain loyal to you,” he stated.

In the caption accompanying the apology video, he confirmed that he had retracted his earlier statements and expressed a desire to resolve the dispute amicably and privately.

“I regret the tone and public manner of my recent comments regarding Bangalee,” he wrote. “I hold D’banj in the highest regard and will not make further public statements on this matter while cooperating to resolve it amicably.”
