Lizzo debuted her latest track “Still Bad” on Thursday, which is her second single from her forthcoming fifth album, Love In Real Life. The song’s style is reminiscent of Lizzo’s earlier work, a lively and upbeat pop tune in which the artist moves on from a recent heartbreak. She co-wrote the song alongside Blake Slatkin, who is also the co-producer of her successful 2022 single “About Damn Time,” along with Ricky Reed, a long-time collaborator and producer of several of her popular hits such as “Juice,” “Good as Hell,” and “Truth Hurts.” “Still Bad” is the second track from her upcoming album, released after the Prince-inspired lead single and title track “Love In Real Life.”
“Still Bad” is a quintessential pop single, with lyrics delivered in the signature sing-rap style that has become her hallmark in recent releases. The song showcases some of Lizzo’s signature sharp humor. Unexpectedly, the biting quality is less pronounced than on her debut album, Cuz I Love You. Lizzo excels vocally, and the chorus is equally memorable. Her message of self-love and positivity, however, was tarnished following a lawsuit from her former dancers, who accused her of bullying and sexual harassment. It appears she’s attempting to stage a comeback following that significant setback in her career. Her next album, Love In Real Life, will be released following the dismissal of her legal issues and her 2022 album, Special. Special was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Album of the Year. The song also gave birth to the award-winning Record of the Year hit, “About Damn Time.” The rollout is currently in progress, but a release date has not been set.
