Lil Yachty – I Need Meds

Lil Yachty has remained incredibly busy despite opening for the CHROMAKOPIA tour this year, yet he continues to release music that is highly praised. He has recently released the loosie “Won’t Diss You,” and now we have a YouTube-exclusive single in “i need meds.”

On this new track, the Atlanta rapper utilizes a low, deep tone and experiments with a traditional triplet rhythm in his delivery. The effect is quite impressive given his typical vocal style, and its contrast with the soaring synths and entertaining ad-libs is very engaging. Yachty’s delivery isn’t consistent throughout, which adds more dynamism than initially meets the eye.

It’s a low-tempo track that can still induce a scowl, and it’s encouraging to see the “Come To Coulda Been” rapper experiment with different styles. At this stage in his career, he could easily rely on nostalgia-driven hooks and signature characteristics. Lil Yachty still has some tricks up his sleeve, even when he’s paying homage to his earlier days sonically and in terms of flow.

In other areas, things appear to be improving in Yachty’s life, particularly in regards to some contentious issues. KARRAHBOOO, a former member of his Concrete Boys group, recently stated that they have resolved their differences. Perhaps they won’t collaborate on new music in the near future, but it’s still positive to see reconciliation rather than ongoing resentment. Regardless of what happens, we can bet that whatever Lil Yachty releases next will, at the very least, be very successful.
