Lil Peep – downtown

Lil Peep downtown

There are few estates within the music industry that have effectively managed the lives and legacies of deceased artists. Mac Miller’s family stands out as one of the best in this regard, while Lil Peep’s family is not far behind. Peep passed away unexpectedly in 2017 at the age of 21. Since that time, his family has only approved the release of music that was nearly finished or has worked to re-release tracks that resonated with his fanbase.

One such track is “downtown,” which initially leaked in 2016 but never made it to streaming platforms. The primary reason for this was its inclusion of a prominent sample from Beach House’s 2010 single “Silver Soul” (which fans may also recognize as the main sample in Kendrick Lamar’s “Money Trees”).

Now, it is available for fans to enjoy. The track is only a couple of minutes long and does not contain a full verse, instead repeating the hook twice. Nevertheless, it is an enjoyable single that can easily fit into one’s “vibes” playlist.

The clearance of “downtown” follows the approval of LIL PEEP, PART ONE by Lil Peep’s estate in 2024, and nearly two years after they completed DIAMONDS, a collaborative album with iLoveMakonnen that had been shelved for several years while Peep’s family focused on resolving a wrongful death lawsuit against his former record label. Be sure to check out the new/old single below.
