Kyrie Irving Spent $11,001 To Support LaRussell’s Album And Independent Music

Bay Area rapper LaRussell is engaging directly with fans to sell his music, receiving celebrity support along the way. Recently, he received over $11,000 from NBA player Kyrie Irving, reflecting the enthusiasm around his upcoming album, Something’s in the Water.

LaRussell Dwayne Thomas, the artist from Vallejo, has been promoting the project through livestreams. He aims to sell 100,000 copies of his new album within 30 days using the platform EVEN, which connects artists directly to fans. The platform allows buyers to set their price for the music, starting at $1, although they can choose to pay more.

Upon noticing the $11,001 contribution, LaRussell learned that it was made by Dallas Mavericks player Kyrie Irving. During a livestream on Sunday (Jan. 5), Irving expressed his support.

“You earned it. You deserve it,” said Irving. “You worked hard, so I thought I would just contribute to what you got going on. I know you will pay it forward… I’m putting my money where my mouth is… I want to see you reach your goal. Shout out to you bro.”

Other celebrities have also provided financial support. Snoop Dogg donated $2,500, commenting, “Had 2 do it!!! Nefew (LaRussell) changin tha game,” on X.

This moment was significant for LaRussell. He stated in an Instagram post recognizing Snoop’s contribution, “It feels so good knowing those who came before me and paved a way for me to do what I do (respect) my art and my grind. I wouldn’t do what I do today if I never watched Snoop performing on the Up In Smoke DVD! That DVD kicked off my desire to rap!”

With LaRussell already having around two million followers on Instagram, it is likely he will achieve his sales goal soon.
