Khalid – in plain sight

Khalid in plain sight

Khalid has long been recognized as a singer celebrated for his blends of alternative R&B, pop, and elements of hip-hop. However, the 27-year-old creative from El Paso, Texas is embracing a fully pop sound in his latest single, “in plain sight.” This track is produced by the hitmaker ILYA, known for his work with artists such as Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift, and it also incorporates influences from 80s dance and disco.

Nonetheless, it retains a contemporary and modern polish. In this song, Khalid addresses a relationship fraught with overt lies and betrayal. One partner has been unfaithful and shows no remorse about it.

“Said he was just a friend (Friend) / If it’s coincidence, baby / Okay, okay, okay, okay,” he sings with indifference. Yet, this song, along with his upcoming album, holds significant meaning for Khalid.

As reported by Rolling Stone, he expressed feelings of liberation and comfort in his identity. “This chapter is about reclaiming my power, living authentically, and expressing myself without restraint. I am eager for my fans to join me in this new phase, not only musically but also personally.”

This sentiment is evident in the lively production and the overarching themes of the song. As he articulates, it revolves around “love, self-discovery, openness, and a renewed sense of freedom.”

Regarding his fourth LP, Khalid’s after the sun goes down is set to be released on October 10 and will feature 16 tracks.
