However, the 27-year-old creative from El Paso, Texas is embracing a fully pop sound in his latest single, “in plain sight.” This track is produced by the hitmaker ILYA, known for his work with artists such as Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift, and it also incorporates influences from 80s dance and disco.

Nonetheless, it retains a contemporary and modern polish. In this song, Khalid addresses a relationship fraught with overt lies and betrayal. One partner has been unfaithful and shows no remorse about it.

“Said he was just a friend (Friend) / If it’s coincidence, baby / Okay, okay, okay, okay,” he sings with indifference. Yet, this song, along with his upcoming album, holds significant meaning for Khalid.
