Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ has become a one-woman man. The ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$ rapper who previously led a polyamorous lifestyle has recently spoken about why he returned to a monogamous relationship.

It appears that Joey’s days of practicing polyamory are now behind him, given his current engagement to actress Serayah McNeill. On a Monday (October 27) episode of Cam Newton’s “Funky Friday” podcast, he discussed his decision with the former NFL star.

Joey explained that he was in a previous relationship, on and off, with his high school sweetheart before meeting the mother of his daughter. This gave me a particular kind of experience. By the time that ended, I was thinking, ‘Okay, cool.’ I wasted a significant portion of my lifetime attempting to get this project operational. I’ve reached a stage where I’m questioning whether I should explore alternative options. It was at that point that the concept of polyamory became an option.

In June, Joey and Serayah welcomed a baby boy, and they subsequently confirmed their engagement in July. Joey claimed that his previous decision to have multiple partners was made out of a desire not to be dishonest. The experience provided him with a new viewpoint.

In hindsight, he admitted that there was a part of him that wasn’t satisfied. I felt a sense of emptiness. I think I was using it to compensate for what I lacked within myself, and I was trying to find it in others.

In related news, Joey released a new album called Lonely At The Top in late August. A previously scheduled tour to support the project, dubbed “The Dark Aura Tour” and initially set to commence in October with Ab-Soul and Rapsody, was unexpectedly cancelled at the very start of the month. It was later revealed that one reason the dates were cancelled was to prioritise his mental wellbeing.

Joey said on Earn Your Leisure’s “Black Out with Ian & Rashad” podcast that he thought about how to address this issue and decided to choose honesty. The real reason I cancelled the tour is that my mental health wasn’t compatible with it. I didn’t feel mentally prepared enough to undertake this journey.

Respect.
