J’Dess – Chinyere ft. The Cavemen

J’Dess draws from her Igbo heritage in “Chinyere,” a soulful Afrofusion collaboration with the Highlife band The Cavemen. Released on September 11, 2026, the song serves as a precursor to her seven-track EP, ALA, which means “Earth.”

Composed by J’Dess along with Kingsley and Benjamin Okorie, “Chinyere” features the organic instrumentation characteristic of The Cavemen. Their live approach establishes a solid Highlife foundation, while J’Dess incorporates contemporary R&B and Soul elements in her vocal delivery.

The song emphasizes Igbo culture as a central aspect of its musical identity. Traditional phrasing and chant-like refrains shape its lyrics, which address themes of identity, perseverance, and resilience against gossip. This cultural emphasis aligns with the broader themes anticipated in ALA.

The Cavemen’s contribution lends a distinctly Nigerian character to the record, with live instrumentation consistently supporting J’Dess’s vocals. As a release preceding ALA, “Chinyere” provides an early insight into the cultural direction of her upcoming project.
