GoldLink’s Freestyle On Drama Over Old Mac Miller Tribute Post

GoldLink addresses the controversy surrounding his previous tribute post for Mac Miller in a new freestyle where he seems to respond to criticism about that post.

On June 10, Link released a new freestyle on social media, which he accompanied with a nonchalant caption. The D.C. rapper appears to direct the song towards those criticizing him for a post made after Mac’s death in 2019.

“This for you who were on my case/Trying to create drama from Mac Miller and that situation,” GoldLink raps. “That’s my brother, and he did what he did and that’s it/You should probably ask Tyler how he feels about this/When we were in that Tesla before we switched to his Benz/All I’m saying is that it’s not what you think it is.”

GoldLink referenced a lengthy message he posted after Mac Miller’s death, in which he praised their friendship but suggested that Miller’s album, Divine Feminine, was influenced by his own album, And After That, We Didn’t Talk. This implication was not well-received by Miller’s fans.

A month later, GoldLink addressed the backlash and clarified that his intent was not to accuse Miller of copying him.

“The post I made about Mac Miller was about love and the camaraderie between us,” he stated. “It wasn’t about stealing. I never used the word ‘copy,’ I never used the word ‘steal.'”

He also acknowledged Miller’s work, saying, “Mac Miller wrote all of Divine Feminine. That was a great album. That’s one of the realest people I ever met.”
