FKA twigs – Perfectly

FKA twigs Perfectly

FKA twigs created a new term on her latest album, EUSEXUA. The term was inspired by blending “eureka” and “sex,” and it originated after some liberating experiences at a warehouse rave in 2022. “I was having these profoundly healing moments in my head about who I was at that moment. Experiences began surfacing in my life that I hadn’t encountered since my childhood, such as being able to dance uncoordinatedly, you know, being able to freely move my body in an unusual and astonishing manner.

She informed Spotify that she aimed to recreate that same atmosphere in some form, and you can sense it in the grooves of this January release. The euphoric moments are captured in songs such as “Perfect Stranger,” the title track, or even “Room Of Fools.”

In the end, the three-year wait was worthwhile, but FKA twigs isn’t taking as much time off now. The UK product has returned with “Perfectly,” a track that evokes a similar atmosphere to its mood pieces, focusing on living in the present and letting go of the need for perfection.

She can translate this message with straightforward yet impactful lines such as, “Another way / Learned to breathe in another way / I believe in another way / Another way.”

The music video successfully conveys this feeling as Twig and others dance with complete abandon. This entire era is centred around this concept and it’s exhilarating to consider that it’s not yet at its end.

As she wrote on her Instagram, “and so the offerings resume once more… if EUSEXUA was the tip of the tongue, PERFECTLY is the oesophagus… I wonder what lies within the belly of the beast.” We concur. We think so.
