Veteran musician Femi Kuti has commented on the recent fallout between Nigerian artist Wizkid and his younger brother, Seun Kuti, providing a composed perspective on the situation that has garnered significant attention on social media.

The tension began when Seun Kuti criticized Wizkid’s fanbase for making disrespectful comparisons between Wizkid and their late father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Seun contended that these comparisons undermined Fela’s substantial legacy.

The situation intensified when Wizkid responded to Seun with a series of Instagram posts that included derogatory remarks, notably claiming superiority over Fela, a statement that further stirred public opinion.

As the disagreement escalated, social media became a platform for heated discussions, with fans, commentators, and music enthusiasts splitting over the remarks and the broader conversation about comparing contemporary artists to cultural icons.

In a recent interview on Arise TV, Femi Kuti explained that he chose to remain silent during the controversy. He emphasized that Fela’s name and legacy should not be involved in public disputes or used in personal conflicts.

Femi asserted that Fela holds a unique and revered position in Nigerian music history, and he believes that ongoing comparisons between the Afrobeat legend and today’s artists are unnecessary and unproductive.

He also clarified that he does not intend to take sides in the matter, noting that he has personal relationships with both Seun and Wizkid. While acknowledging the strong feelings surrounding the issue, he expressed a wish for the tensions to resolve soon.

“I have not commented because Fela is our father, and many younger artists respect him. I do not believe his name should have been involved in this issue; he is the benchmark for many aspects of music and artistry in Nigeria,”

he stated.

“Fela should be placed in a category of his own, deserving of idolization and respect. I prefer not to engage in the matter between Seun and Wizkid, as Seun is my brother and Wizkid is like a son. I hope this situation will resolve itself soon.”

Through his comments, Femi Kuti aimed to calm the ongoing controversy, calling for respect for Fela’s legacy and restraint, while subtly reminding the public that certain icons are beyond comparison.
