Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Afraid to Be Different” has a notable supporter in Dre. On January 30, Thursday, the renowned producer participated in the debut episode of “The Unusual Suspects” alongside Kenya Barris and Malcolm Gladwell, sharing his opinion on his protégé’s rap battle with Drake and his preference for the track. On Thursday (Jan. 30), the legendary producer joined Kenya Barris and Malcolm Gladwell for their debut episode of “The Unusual Suspects,” where he weighed in on his protégé’s rap battle with Drake and affinity for the track.

Dre expressed his enthusiasm for the Mustard-produced track, which has a total of five Grammy Awards nominations. He then redirected his focus to Drake, whom he felt had overstepped by referencing Lamar’s fiancée, Whitney Alford, and their two children, Uzi and Enoch.

“I’m going to say this on camera.” I’m trying to avoid a pessimistic attitude. The mogul prefaced his statement by emphasizing the importance of positivity and moving forward when he said, “My whole thing is about being positive and moving forward, and all that.” However, he then expressed a strong reaction to hearing Drake make negative comments about Kendrick’s wife and children, which prompted him to say, “Ah, adios.”

Alford appeared to have gained an early advantage in the dispute. The Pulitzer Prize winner targeted Drake and J. in her criticism weeks later. The Toronto rapper’s response to Cole on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” was “Push Ups,” which included the lyrics, “I’m with some bodyguards like Whitney. Top says drop, your little midget a** better f**k.”

The “Family Matters” track continued, with Drake implying that one of Lamar’s children might be fathered by Dave Free, a longtime collaborator and co-founder of pgLang. He rapped, “Because if your general manager is also your baby’s mother’s secret boyfriend, then all of this is starting to make sense to me,” over the Boi-1da and Tay Keith-produced song.

It’s also worth mentioning that “THE HEART PART 6” included a screenshot of a comment from Dave Free, which appeared under one of Alford’s Instagram posts. Lamar ultimately gained the upper hand with “The Pop Out — Ken and Friends” and the extremely successful “Not Like Us.” Dre actually performed the song’s intro at the Juneteenth event held in Los Angeles.
