When it comes to fashion, Doechii has consistently been the girl who sets the standard, and we now have insight into the sources of her style inspiration. Dazed published an interview with the Grammy Award winner on Thursday, February 27, in which she cited Ye as one of her current fashion influences, a choice that is not entirely surprising given the numerous rappers who have previously incorporated elements of his style, and also named JAY-Z as a more unexpected source of inspiration.

Doechii expressed admiration for JAY-Z, citing his affinity for pinstripe suits and other aspects of his style, which the music mogul incorporated into his image in the 2010s. She referred to early Kanye West, describing him as a student of Hip Hop, specifically pointing out his affinity for rugby shirts and sweaters, which he wore around the time of his album The College Dropout, released in 2004.

After getting sober, she found herself in a situation where she fell in love with Hip Hop once more due to her pineal gland functioning properly again. The academic style appealed to me.

Doechii reveals she’s never been one to prioritise dressing for comfort.

At 26, Doechii has noted that her style has undergone a significant transformation since the beginning of her career. The “What It Is” rapper typically inclined towards “avant-garde things” that were characterised by being “the most uncomfortable and the most theatrical,” a trait evident in several of her early award show appearances and live performances.

Noting that, the artist signed with TDE also commented on the custom Thom Browne dress she wore to the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. “I couldn’t breathe,” she wryly acknowledged. The Swamp Princess, a self-proclaimed persona, had also been named to the Met Gala Host Committee just a short time before.

What’s in Store for Doechii in Terms of Fashion.

Doechii has been establishing herself as a fashion icon for several years, particularly for alternative Black girls globally — Rap-Up included her in their selection of the most fashionable rappers of today in January. At DSQUARED2’s 30th-anniversary event during Milan Fashion Week on Tuesday (February 25), she showcased her talents by strutting down the runway and then performing the songs “NISSAN ALTIMA” and “Alter Ego” alongside JT.

It’ll be intriguing to observe where she progresses from this point, however, currently, the Florida native is undoubtedly one of Hip Hop’s most stylish stars.
