Davido Makes Special Appearance At Clifford University

A renowned Afrobeats artist, Davido, who was born David Adeleke, paid a tribute to his deceased mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, by establishing a female dormitory that bears her name at Clifford University in Abia State.

The ceremony, which took place during the university’s sixth convocation, generated excitement from students, faculty, and fans alike.

Davido officially cut the ribbon for the Veronica Adeleke Hostel, accompanied by members of his 30BG crew and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest. The singer portrayed the dedication as a tribute to his mother’s enduring impact as an educator, philanthropist, and education advocate, highlighting how her principles still motivate his life, music, and humanitarian pursuits.

“While looking at the graduates’ faces, I noticed the same drive that shaped me – the desire to be acknowledged, to transform suffering into strength,” Davido stated in his commencement address. Talent may provide the initial opportunity, but a clear purpose is what gives it significance.

The event also witnessed Cubana Chief Priest commit to paying the school fees of 50 students, thus further enhancing the atmosphere of generosity and empowerment that characterised the day. Clifford University’s Vice Chancellor, Chimezie Omeonu, praised Davido for his contribution to education and for inspiring young Africans to strive for excellence.

Davido posted on his social media account X that the hostel is a continuation of his mother’s work: “My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, ever believed education and compassion could transform lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose, transforming love into a lasting legacy.

The inauguration ended with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was attended by university administrators, students, and invited guests, and served as a lasting tribute to a woman whose influence continues to impact people’s lives.
