In a widely circulated video, Afrobeats artist Davido discussed the emotional challenges associated with fame and the need for support for individuals after they achieve peak success.

He expressed that many individuals who have reached the pinnacle of their careers often experience difficulties when public attention starts to wane, despite their significant accomplishments.

Davido indicated that this emotional transition is something he contemplates seriously, envisioning the creation of a dedicated space for former stars to receive mental and emotional aid.

He stated,

“If there was one thing I could build, I would build a centre for people that have been popular and very successful before, a centre for them to have therapy, because it’s crazy being on top of the world and the next moment you’re not.”

He compared this situation to that of athletes, emphasizing that even those who have garnered numerous accolades still face criticism when public expectations exceed their achievements.

“Even with soccer, with football, you win all these awards, you win a Champions League, you win World Cup, and people don’t still feel like it’s enough.”

Davido also mentioned sports figure Cristiano Ronaldo, highlighting how even renowned athletes encounter harsh online critique regardless of their historic successes.

“For example, look at Ronaldo, he’s my good friend. When he left the World Cup, I remember being online and seeing how much criticism he received, after everything he has accomplished.”

For Davido, this discussion is not only about admiration; it reflects a personal concern regarding maintaining success and safeguarding his legacy in a rapidly changing industry.

“That’s my greatest fear. I work too hard for me to come and spoil it with something, so I always ask God, like, God, just tell me the right time to, you know? But I think that’s the only thing I’m scared of.”

His remarks underscore the often unseen aspects of fame—the ongoing pressure that persists even after accolades and global recognition. For Davido, the notion of a “post-fame support system” is not merely theoretical; it encapsulates the mental demands of being at the top and the potential for sudden shifts in status.
