Cassper Nyovest Claims AKA’s ‘Sim Dope’ Bears A Resemblance To ‘Tito Mboweni’

Cassper Nyovest AKA

The late rapper AKA’s classic track Sim Dope has become the subject of conversation following a surprising claim made by Cassper Nyovest.

The Doc Shebeleza artist stated during an interview on L-Tido’s Podcast that he thinks Sim Dope was motivated by his own 2017 hit, Tito Mboweni.

Cassper, also known as Mufasa, made the comment nonchalantly but revealed he would have preferred AKA, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, to have responded if he were still alive.

Cassper noted that the song’s beat and concept were “quite similar.”

Nyovest also disclosed that he was on the cusp of signing with Kiernan’s record label, Benza, prior to opting for a different career trajectory.

After the viral clip of the interview surfaced, Raphael Benza, CEO of Vth Season and AKA’s former manager, intervened to correct the record.

He respectfully dismissed Cassper’s claim when sharing the snippet online, praising both rappers for their contributions to South African hip-hop.

I will correct you. Your assertion is incorrect. He confirmed only that you were nearly signed by Benza, he wrote. “You are two distinct types of artists.” South Africa was better off with the two of you present at the same damn time. Everyone benefited. I highly doubt that era will ever recur in the South African music industry, but only God knows whether we’ll need it again. #RIPAKA. Keep your movement in motion.
