Busta Rhymes and J Dilla are collaborating on a new album this year.

The frontman of Flipmode Squad hosted a listening session in New York City on Thursday night (February 20) for Dillagence 2, a sequel to their original 2007 mixtape.

During the event, Busta was joined by Statik Selektah and DJ Tony Touch, providing a select group of fans and friends the chance to preview the project, which includes a collaboration with Lil Wayne.

Statik shared a brief segment of a song featuring Weezy on his Instagram Stories, tagging him in the post. If confirmed, this would mark the first time Wayne raps over Dilla’s production.

Ahead of the listening party, Busta announced Dillagence 2 on Instagram, stating: “THE BLESSINGS DON’T STOP SO WE DON’T STOP!!! NEVERRR!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!! BUSTA RHYMES x J DILLA NEW ALBUM!! POP UP LISTENING SESSION TONIGHT!!”

No further details, including a release date or tracklist, have been disclosed.

Released in November 2007, more than a year after J Dilla’s death, Dillagence served as a tribute to the influential producer. Busta utilized some of Dilla’s most notable beats along with a few original instrumentals.

The mixtape, hosted by Mick Boogie, featured contributions from artists such as Q-Tip, Phonte, Talib Kweli, Raekwon, M.O.P., and Rah Digga.

By the time of its release, Busta and J Dilla had established a strong collaborative rapport, known as one of hip-hop’s prominent rapper-producer duos, known for numerous classics like “Still Shining,” “Show Me What You Got,” and “Turn Me Up Some.”

Dilla contributed to six of Busta’s first seven albums, with the exception of 1998’s Extinction Level Event: The Final World Front.

In a 2020 interview with GQ, Busta mentioned, “J Dilla left me with over 300 beats before he passed. I’m extremely selective with who I give them to, which is why I haven’t given them to anybody except Raekwon and that was for Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part Two.”

Busta emphasized his commitment to honoring J Dilla’s legacy through his work, expressing his admiration for Dilla as one of the best producers in the industry, along with Dr. Dre and Q-Tip.
