BNXN Explains Why He Cut Ties With Friends After ‘Captain’ Album

The singer talked about his experiences during an interview with Nadeska on Apple Music’s The Nadeska Show, where he reflected on the personal situations that influenced his latest project, Still In Charge.

BNXN mentioned that several months after the release of Captain in July 2025, he realized some concerning things about people in his inner circle, prompting him to reconsider those relationships.

“Months after I dropped Captain, you know, I had close friends that I had to detach from or kind of sever the relationships mainly because I discovered some things that were just not right.”

He did not disclose the identities of these individuals or the specifics of his discoveries but indicated that ending those ties was ultimately about safeguarding his future.

“It was important that I had to sever those ties because it could have really cost me and my career like in the long run.”

This experience also altered BNXN’s approach to trust and relationships. He advised people to pay careful attention to their instincts, particularly regarding those they consider close friends.

“It’s just important to really take time and pay attention to what your subconscious tells you, especially when it comes to, like, dealing with people and dealing with, like, you know, people that you really consider friends or people that you really trust.”

His personal challenges extended beyond relationships. BNXN also recounted a time when he found himself without a management team, despite being one of Nigeria’s most-streamed artists.

He described this as a strange situation, especially considering the level of success he believed he had reached.

“Top eight streaming artistes in Nigeria and, you know, at this point I don’t have no management, I don’t have no team, and it’s like, what are you going to do?”

BNXN did not mention the streaming platform or the exact time related to the ranking, but the situation made him reevaluate his career management.

He also discussed the difficulty of maintaining self-confidence during challenging times, despite having success to reference.

“And then it kicks in, like you said, in the bad days, how do you remind yourself that you’re this guy?”

This period ultimately prompted BNXN to take charge and begin piecing his career back together. He related this restructuring process directly to the creation of Still In Charge.

“I start to restructure, try to get everything in one, in one bit. And that’s where the whole process of Still In Charge starts coming up.”

For BNXN, Still In Charge represents more than just another musical release. The project emerged from a time of personal reevaluation, difficult choices, and rebuilding as he aimed to regain control over both his career and his inner circle.
